Design Engineer – Forging Specialist

💼 Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 DOE + competitive benefits
Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a passion for forging and precision engineering? Our client, a specialist manufacturer of high-integrity components for critical applications, is seeking a Design Engineer to focus on the design and development of forged components, tooling, and related processes – particularly within the aerospace sector.

Key Responsibilities
- Component & Tooling Design: Design and optimise forged components and tooling to meet technical and performance requirements
- Process Development: Create and refine forging processes, focusing on material flow, die configuration, and grain structure
- CAD & Simulation: Use NX (or similar) for 3D design and FEA to simulate forging behaviour and improve performance
- Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve issues, improve die life, and reduce defects
- Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement design improvements to increase yield, minimise waste, and boost product integrity
- Documentation: Produce high-quality technical drawings, specifications, and design change documentation
Ideal Candidate
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
- 2+ years’ experience in a design engineering role, ideally within metal forging or heavy industrial manufacturing
- Strong CAD skills – preferably NX or SolidWorks
- Hands-on FEA experience for structural and flow analysis
- Good understanding of forging techniques, tooling, and metallurgical principles
- Familiarity with GD&T and technical drawing standards
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Aerospace or defence industry experience is a plus
